With the distance from the train station to the village<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it&#8217;s harder to hop around between <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the other<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> towns. Therefore, b<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ecause Corniglia is more isolated,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I wouldn\u2019t recommend staying there.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hiking_from_Corniglia_to_Vernazza\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><b>Hiking from Corniglia to Vernazza\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The best part of Corniglia is it\u2019s a great starting point if you want to hike the coastal trail to Vernazza. From Corniglia to Vernazza budget around 2 hours for the hike. You\u2019ll need to purchase the Cinque Terre Trekking Card for 7.50 in cash which you can do at the guard post at the entrance to the trail. Many of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trails <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have stunning views of the coastline.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll need to buy a Cinque Terre Trekking Card (7.50 for one day of hiking) for the main coastal <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trails<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between Riomaggiore and Monterosso. You can purchase the cards at the train stations, or at the trailheads. At the trailheads <\/span><b>they only accept cash!\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before planning your hike<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> check the weather forecast and confirm if any of the trails are closed. Official closures are noted on the national parks website <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0&#8211; and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are posted the park-information desks in each town\u2019s train station.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Don\u2019t venture on a trial without the proper attire! Water, sunscreen, a hat, towel (for sweat), and proper shoes are a must. Vernazza has the best selection of restaurants to keep you entertained and full all night long.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><b>Monterosso<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Monterosso is a great spot if you\u2019re looking to <strong>spend time at the beach<\/strong>. It has the <strong>most bars that are open late<\/strong> if you\u2019re looking for more nightlife. Monterosso also <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more options to connect by rail nonstop to neighboring cities <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rather than stopping in each Cinque Terre village.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><b>Manarola<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Manarola is my top choice for home base, and I\u2019m so glad we stayed here! The town is so romantic and perfect for strolling in the evenings. We enjoyed the <strong>great selection of restaurants<\/strong> for dinner. We booked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/rooms\/1009070?source_impression_id=p3_1588910130_69VfUhsbxWtZv7fY&amp;guests=1&amp;adults=1\">this budget friendly AirBnB<\/a> which was perfect for two travelers. It was so close to the train station which was nice to avoid climbing up steep hills with luggage. The host and accommodations were lovely.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><b>Riomaggiore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Riomaggiore is the largest of the towns, and has the <strong>most options for guest houses<\/strong>. Riomaggiore is also <strong>great for sunset<\/strong><\/span><strong>s<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but in my experience Manarola and Vernazza had nicer options for a relaxing dinner.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Corniglia<\/strong>: Corniglia is on a hilltop, and is a <strong>great home base for hikers<\/strong>. The end of September used to be smaller crowds, but that has really shifted more towards the first two weeks of October. July and August are very hot, and with limited air conditioning in most restaurants<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it might not be as comfortable. Leaving enough room for a day of hiking, relaxing, and a cooking class or two! It&#8217;s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and I can say with confidence it&#8217;s definitely worth the detour before or after your Cinque Terre trip.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Get_to_Portoverne\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>How to Get to Portoverne\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The reason you&#8217;ll find far fewer crowds at Portoverne is because it&#8217;s not connected by train. <strong>To get to Portoverne you&#8217;ll need to arrive by boat, car, or bus<\/strong>! Check out this guide <a href=\"https:\/\/portovenere.a-turist.com\/how_to_arrive\">here<\/a> for an overview of all the different transportation types to Portoverne. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">We took the 11P bus from La Spezia for only \u20ac3 per ticket which leaves every 20-16 minutes. You can buy bus tickets at any tobacco shop (Tabaccheria) and stamp it in the machines once you get on the bus. The total journey takes less than an hour.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_to_Go_and_How_Long_to_Stay_in_Portoverne\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>When to Go and How Long to Stay in Portoverne\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">You can easily see the main sights and have lunch, or coffee in the <strong>Portoverne in around 3-4 hours<\/strong>. I <strong>recommend visiting Portoverne on your way back from Cinque Terre<\/strong> because you&#8217;ll need to up back in La Spezia to catch the bus to Portovenere. It was consecrated officially in 1198. It&#8217;s an impossible landmark you can&#8217;t miss when you arrive to Portovenere. We paid the \u20ac5 entrance fee to go inside the castle. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Doria Castle was the center of the battle between Pisa and Genoa in the 13th century and later, between the 15th and 17th centuries it underwent major reconstructions again.
