easily be reached by car<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\"> from Dubrovnik, Croatia in just under two hours. I combined my trip to Kotor with stops in Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina and ending in Dubrovnik. My whole trip between <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/test.popoversandpassports.com\/staging\/why-mostar-bosnia-needs-to-be-on-your-bucket-list\/\">Mostar<\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\">, Kotor, and <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/test.popoversandpassports.com\/staging\/the-essential-travel-guide-to-dubrovnik\/\">Dubrovnik<\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\"> was only eight days!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\">The <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\"><strong>old town is car-free<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\">, but you can either park your car by the paid parking space near the city walls. We had discount parking through our hotel, but we paid around 15 euros a day.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\"><strong>Two days is the perfect amount of time <\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\">to explore the area when the cruise ship visitors have left. Pack sunscreen and lots of water and head up for the day.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">If you decide to climb to the fortress here are some tips:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><b>GO EARLY<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;Not only will you beat the heat<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i>&nbsp;and<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;the crowds but you can avoid the admission cost if you arrive before the ticket collector (8am).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><b>PREPARE FOR A HIKE&nbsp;<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The walk to the top is not for the faint of heart. Bring along sunscreen and lots of water. Hiking should take around 1-2 hours depending on how often you stop for pictures.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><b>NO RESTROOMS&nbsp;<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Use the restroom before your hike as there are none along the way, or at the top.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><b>WEAR PROPER SHOES<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;The trail is not paved and the rocks are loose and slippery.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><b>ADMISSION<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;is \u20ac8, and they only accept cash&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"VISIT_THE_THREE_MAIN_CHURCHES\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>VISIT THE THREE MAIN CHURCHES&nbsp;<\/b><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The Old Town of Kotor has plenty of old churches to visit. Some are free to enter, and some cost a few euros. A few that are worth a visit are Saint Tryphon\u2019s Cathedral, Saint Nicholas\u2019 Church and Saint Luke\u2019s Church.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;CHURCH OF ST. You can get there via boat, bus (tickets are about 1.20\u20ac one-way), or drive there yourself. The drive is only around 15 minutes from Kotor.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\"><em>Popover Tip<\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt\">: If you have a car, parking in Perast can be challenging. The grilled octopus with walnut and honey sauce was absolutely wonderful. If you want to avoid the crowds, but still have a good chance of some nice weather, then the best time to visit Kotor is during the shoulder seasons of April-May or September-October. It has the best location with fabulous views of Old Town. Hotel Cattaro was previously a guard tower, Rector\u2019s Palace, town hall and town theatre, all built by Napoleon.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">Hotel Cattaro had gorgeous spacious rooms with a wonderful staff who made our stay so special. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was delicious and the was the perfect way to start our morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">It\u2019s&nbsp;no surprise the entire city of Kotor is listed as&nbsp;a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
